Note on Microsoft OneDrive

The newest versions of Microsoft Windows, Office365 and SharePoint Online provide online storage and collaboration features using Microsoft OneDrive. This is not a recommended storage platform for university data and may not be used to store Highly Sensitive Information. If you have any questions about what may be stored in Microsoft OneDrive or which storage and collaboration tools to use, please contact the OIT Help Desk.

Institutional File Space (IFS) at Notre Dame, a centrally managed, shared file system for both personal and institutional use, has two major components: NetFile, which primarily supports the Windows and Mac community, and the Andrew File System (AFS), which primarily supports the Unix community.

The University provides every student, faculty, and staff member with their own personal IFS space that is automatically backed up nightly by the OIT. IFS provides reliable, convenient, and secure access to files, and is most useful when you need to store files in a space that you can access from multiple locations, or if you need to share files with others. Currently, the University Courseware system also is stored in IFS.

In addition, there are several new services available which also provide storage space and some unique collaborative options.  The tables below will help you compare features and select the optimal tool for your needs.
