VPNAccess with Cisco AnyConnect

Connecting to the Cisco AnyConnect VPN on Windows, Mac, or Linux

Install via browser (recommended)

  1. Using your favorite web browser, visit http://vpnaccess.nd.edu.

  2. Log in with your NetID and password. You will see a dialog that indicates you are connected to the Notre Dame VPN group. Click Continue.
    • Note: If you need to log in to a VPN group, type in your NetID in the form of netid.group_name (e.g., asmith99.oites)

  3. A series of dialogs will appear as the VPN installs a very small client on your computer.


    • Note: If you are an Internet Explorer user, or if there is a problem attempting to install the AnyConnect VPN client through the web page, you may receive a dialog that indicates there was an issue. Just click the Download button or link to manually install the correct AnyConnect VPN client for your system.


  4. After the AnyConnect client successfully installs, it will automatically connect you to the Notre Dame VPN.


When you need to connect to the VPN again in the future, you can just visit http://vpnaccess.nd.edu again or you can launch the application Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client from your All Programs or Applications list.

To upgrade from an existing version of the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client, simply attempt to connect. The client will download and install the latest version for you. If you have logged into the VPN previously, the upgrade will remember the last server you connected to as well as the last username you entered.

Please note: When upgrading, any shortcuts to the old client will remain, but will be non-functional. You will need to delete the shortcut and add one to the new, upgraded client.

You can download the installation package for the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client for the operating systems below from OIT Software Downloads.

  • Windows
  • Mac OS X 10.6 and Higher
  • Mac PowerPc
  • Linux

After running the installation, you will want to connect to the server vpnaccess.nd.edu and log in with your NetID and password.
