ND Groups

 

ND Groups, the new group management system that will replace the existing EDS group management system.

This new service offers an improved user interface, additional search capabilities, and membership management enhancements with more frequent updates.

The initial launch of ND Groups will only include basic maintenance such as adding, viewing, and removing members from existing groups. Additional features will continue to be delivered over time.

Current owners and managers of EDS groups will receive additional information to help with this transition.

Overview of the ND Groups Homepage

Adding group members

  1. ​​​​​Working from the ND Groups main page
  2. Review your groups under Groups I Manage
  3. Select the group you wish to add a member
    • If you do not see the Group you wish to work with, click the View all groups link at the bottom of the Groups I Manage list
  4. Click the Add members button
  5. Search for name of person to add to group (you can search by name or NetID)
  6. Click Add

Adding multiple members to a group

  1. ​​​​​Working from the ND Groups main page
  2. Review your groups under Groups I Manage
  3. Select the group you wish to add a member
    • If you do not see the Group you wish to work with click the View all groups link at the bottom of the Groups I Manage list
  4. Click the More actions button located under the Add members button on the top right.
  5. Select Import members from the list
  6. Verify the group listed in the Add member to group field  is the group you wish to update.
  7. In the How to add members section check the radio button for copy/paste a list of member ID’s
  8. Copy a listing of ID’s from another file and Paste those ID’s into the Enter Member ID’s field
  9. Do not change the Choose a Data Source option. (Default is “all”)
  10. Select the Validate entities button.  This action ensures that the ID is in the system.
  11. Do not check the box for replace existing members.   This will remove all members that are already members of the group

Removing group members

 

  1. Select My Groups
  2. Choose the Tab Groups I Manage
  3. Click on the Group Name you wish to update.
  4. Place a check in the box next to the person(s) or groups you wish to remove.
  5. Select the button Remove selected members.
    OR
  6. If removing one at a time,  from the Actions drop down button on the line of the individual select Revoke membership

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I create my own institutional group in ND Groups?

Not at this time.  Although there is an Add a Group button, you still need to follow the same process for requesting the creation of an institutional group.

What is the difference between Google Groups and ND Groups?

Google groups are specific to Google and are Google only.  ND Groups are institutional groups which can feed your Google Group, Sharepoint Groups, etc.  Google groups can be both user-created and institutional.  User-created Google groups are specific to Google.

How do I find an individual and the groups they belong to?

You can find the individual, but will only see memberships in groups that you manage.

  1. Type the name you wish to find in the Universal Search bar.
  2. Click the name.
  3. Under the Memberships tab you’ll find the groups the individual belongs to, only of the groups you manage.

Am I able to set or change permissions for a member that I add to my group or for a member that is already part of my group?

Not at this time.  Additional features will be rolled out at a future time.

The More Tab (drop down) provides information on the membership or privileges of the group to other groups.

This group’s:

  • Membership in other groups (very useful for nested groups)
  • Privileges in other groups (Not relevant for current rollout)
  • Privileges in folders (Not relevant for current rollout)
  • Privileges in attribute definitions  (Not relevant for current rollout)

Removing a Group

An individual is not able to remove a group.  To have a group removed, the group owner may contact the OIT Help Desk and request the specific group is removed.  Email to oithelp@nd.edu is the preferred contact method to ensure that the group name is accurate when beginning this process.
