About Kaltura

Kaltura is an industry leading, open source enterprise video platform, used to manage, publish, distribute, and analyze media content. The Office of Information Technologies and Digital ND are bringing the Kaltura video platform as a service to campus in January 2014.

The publication, distribution and management of video and rich media content is increasingly becoming a core function of forward thinking institutions of higher education. Kaltura provides many of the tools needed to simplify the workflow for efficient and effective media management and publishing.

Kaltura includes tools for:

  • Presenting media in Sakai
  • Delivering content to mobile devices
  • Embedding videos in websites
  • Media distribution & archiving
  • Lecture capture

About the Project

The Kaltura project will introduce three components of the Kaltura platform:

Kaltura Management Console - This is the central repository and core of the Kaltura system to manage, publish, distribute, monetize and analyze content.

Kaltura Media Gallery in Sakai - This tool allows instructors to easily upload and share video, audio, and images within Sakai. Media collections that are built in Kaltura can be categorized, sorted and shared across Sakai courses and within tools. This service will be available to faculty at the start of the Spring semester in January 2014.

Kaltura MediaSpace - Kaltura MediaSpace will serve as a campus video portal (public or private) for University generated and moderated content. It will have limited availability in January 2014 and be made more widely available later that spring.
